ThermoTank (Insulated Water Tank) is manufactured with built-in insulation to maintain water temperature in hot and cold weather conditions. It can also be used as cold and hot water storage tank.

Difference between 2 Ply, 6 Ply Water Tanks & ThermoTank

It is very common misconception that 6 layers white tanks are thicker than 2 ply tanks and due to 6 layers and white color, these tanks are considered weather resistant tanks. In fact, there is not any difference in thickness for 2 layer and 6 layer tanks. Water gets hot and cold in similar way in both 2 layer and 6 layer tanks with a marginal difference.

Both White tanks and blue tanks need external thermal jackets or water tank thermal covers to protect the water from getting hot in summer. White color reflects some sunlight — but only about 10-20% of total solar heat. 80% heat is the conduction heat (heat flow due to temperature difference), which can only be controlled using a built-in insulation or external insulation. As blow mold white tanks don’t have any built-in insulation, therefore, water gets hot in summer and cold in winter in these tanks.

The only effective way to maintain water temperature in extreme summer and winter is by using insulation material on the exterior. However, when applied externally, the insulation is directly exposed to harsh weather conditions, leading to a shorter lifespan. Therefore, a durable and high-performance solution was in high demand.

Construction of ThermoTank

The construction of thermotank is based on multiple layers with each layer having its own significance to ensure highest standards of hygiene, durability and temperature control. But these multiple layers are totally different than multiple layers used in plastic tanks.

The inner food grade layer made from LLDPE helps to store the water in hygienic conditions.

Middle insulation layer about 40mm thick expanded polystyrene (EPS) which keeps the water cool in extreme summers and warm in winters, and reduces more than 40-50% energy cost for water supply and storage.

The outer imported fiberglass  layers helps to protect the insulation for longer period of time.
